How to Care Your Pearl Jewelry

Pearl treatment, ShecyPearls
Pearl is composed of about 2 to 4% water along with calcium carbonate and an organic binder called conchiolin. Because of the poor chemical stability, it is easily oxidized and turns to be yellow. However, if you take care of pearl properly, it can remain fine for more than 100 years. On the contrary, it will be devalued without proper treatment. Therefore, please keep in mind the following suggestions.

The best way for caring pearls is to wear pearl jewelry as much as possible. Oil and sweat from our body can protect the pearl's skin.

Keep away from the kitchen. Pearls are easily damaged by chemicals or eaten away by acids such as vinegar and lemon juice. Heat can also turn pearls brown or dry them out and make them crack.

Never clean by water. The chlorine in the water will damage the luster.Cleaning them with a moist towel and laying the pearls flat on it. After the towel is dry, they should be dry.

Safe deposit boxes are not the best place for pearls. Please keep in a jewelry box with silk. Try to take them out occasionally and expose them to humidity or moisture.

Keep away from perfume, hair spray and cosmetics. And store pearls alone in case that they may be scratched by other jewelry.
